ADVISORYRUNTIME UPDATE·2026-07-10
LM Studio 0.4.19 makes Engine Protocol the default
▼ WHAT HAPPENED
LM Studio 0.4.19 (2026-07-07) turns the Engine Protocol on by default for all stable-channel users. llama.cpp options that previously lived in separate menus - chat template, CPU thread count, speculative decoding - now sit under Load Parameters. Behavior of loaded models does not change, but any written setup guide or screenshot that points at the old settings locations is now out of date. This lands in one of the most widely used local-LLM desktop apps, so expect a wave of confused where-did-my-settings-go posts.
▼ OPERATOR ANGLE
After updating, look for your GGUF load options and speculative-decoding settings under Load Parameters rather than the old menus. If you maintain internal docs or onboarding notes for LM Studio, refresh the screenshots - the old paths are gone from stable as of 0.4.19.
