Open WebUI 0.11.4: slim image around 175 MB

▼ WHAT HAPPENED

Open WebUI 0.11.4 was released on September 21, 2026. The release notes lead with a far smaller slim image, around 175 MB and roughly 89% smaller than the previous release, with the local models, their packages and the tools that installed them removed from it. Earlier in the series, 0.11.1 (Aug 25) added human-in-the-loop tool approval: where an administrator enables it, a conversation can be switched so a model that wants to use a tool stops and waits to be asked first.

▼ OPERATOR ANGLE

If you run Open WebUI purely as a front end to Ollama, llama.cpp or vLLM on another host, the slim image is the one to deploy: less to pull and less to patch. If your users drive tools from chat, turn on tool approval for shared instances so a model cannot run a tool unattended.
