RTX 50 SUPER reportedly on hold: 3GB GDDR7 costs $60-70 vs $20 for 2GB

NVIDIA has reportedly told board partners to hold the GeForce RTX 50 SUPER launch. Per VideoCardz (2026-07-17), at least one AIB already has production-ready cards physically in hand, but NVIDIA has provided no new release schedule. The cited cause: 3GB GDDR7 packages currently run $60-70 each versus roughly $20 for 2GB chips — about 3x the cost for 50% more capacity. At six to eight packages per card, that adds hundreds of dollars to the bill of materials. Affected models: RTX 5080 SUPER (24GB), RTX 5070 Ti SUPER (24GB), RTX 5070 SUPER (18GB), and the RTX 5050 9GB. The refresh had already slipped from CES expectations toward late 2026 or early 2027. NVIDIA has not confirmed a revised launch window; DRAM makers continue to prioritize HBM for AI accelerators over GDDR7.
